On Wednesday the 6th of June, Campion College had the great pleasure of co-hosting Theology Hour on campus with Catholic Youth Parramatta.

Theology Hour provides a space for deeper formation and connection among young adults in the Diocese of Parramatta. By bringing young people together and providing a place for reflection and fellowship, the night sought to encourage a deeper understanding of God and therefore, a commitment to authentically living out the faith daily.

After gathering at the front of campus for food and expo stalls, over 80 young adults made their way into the Dining Hall for the vocations panel. Deacon Tom Green acted as emcee for the evening and posed questions to our four panelists: Sr M Rebecca Sampang (Secular Institute of the Schoenstatt Sisters of Mary), Fr Andrew Rooney (Assistant Priest at Mary Queen of the Family Parish, Blacktown) and married couple Paul and Soizic Morrissey.

Each of the panelists offered practical advice to those gathered and stressed the importance of taking an active role in one's life and vocation.

"Don’t wait!" said Mrs Morrissey. "Pray for your vocation now. Live for your life now. The Lord will reveal himself to you."

Fr Rooney echoed that sentiment saying, "Seek sanctity now; that will be part of your pathway to discerning. You’re here now, put your all into what you’re doing now. Start building up your prayer life and spiritual life, building up your character and virtues. Whatever you are doing now is preparing you for your vocation. Building up your virtues now will help you for your vocation."

Sr M Rebecca suggested pilgrimages and spiritual retreats as unique opportunities to find moments of silence and listen to God's call. "Be open," she said. "And hold onto the belief that God has a plan for you. He already holds it lovingly and with mercy in the palm of his hand. He will lead you."

She also spoke on the importance of moving forward with conviction. "Once you’ve discerned, do it! Don’t be a perpetual discerner. Don’t let it wait, go for it!"

A special thanks is extended to Shawarma at Your Door, Cravin Coffee Van, Parousia Media and Catholic Apparel for joining us on the night, and to the Campion College students who volunteered their time to set up for the event.

Theology Hour will be back on campus later this year! If you know someone aged 18+ who would be interested in attending, please encourage them to follow Catholic Youth Parramatta and Campion College Australia on Facebook and Instagram for further details.
