Last Thursday, Campion College hosted former Prime Minister Tony Abbott AC as the distinguished guest speaker at its Formal Hall. Addressing a captivated audience, Mr. Abbott praised the institution as a “point of light” in what he described as spiritually challenging times, drawing parallels between the college and the role monasteries played in preserving faith during the Dark Ages.

“Campion College is a place of striving and academic excellence,” Mr. Abbott remarked. “In the dark ages, the monasteries maintained the light of faith. I believe that institutions such as this maintain the faith in these times, which are much more peaceful and prosperous... but no less spiritually bereft.”

Encouraging students to embrace leadership, Mr. Abbott shared insights from his own experiences, urging them to know their own minds and accept the risks that come with leadership. He quoted one of his mentors, B. A. Santa Maria, emphasising that even in the face of overwhelming odds, "the minnow must do what he can."

The evening’s address resonated deeply with Campion students, underscoring the college’s mission to form well-rounded individuals prepared to lead and serve in an ever-changing world.
