FAQ
Campion College is an independent institution of higher education located in Western Sydney. We are Australia’s first and only liberal arts college.
Campion College offers a unique tertiary experience for both residential and day students, inspired by the great traditions of higher learning in the liberal arts going back to Plato’s Academy and drawing from the educational models of more recent liberal arts colleges in Europe and North America. Yes! Many famous tertiary institutions do not have the word ‘university’ in their name; Campion College follows this trend. All courses at Campion College are accredited by the same state and federal bodies that carefully control all other degrees in Australia.
A liberal arts education is the cornerstone of the Western academic tradition, dating back to the earliest universities of Europe. It is a holistic approach to learning that emphasises broad intellectual exploration rather than narrow specialisation. As Saint John Henry Newman wrote in The Idea of a University, a liberal education is the highest aim of academic life— developing the mind, shaping character, and fostering wisdom.Find out more about the benefits of a liberal arts education.
A liberal arts education helps undergraduates to identify their interests and capacities for their future careers, while grounding them in basic but essential skills like critical analysis, superior reading and writing capability, and excellent communication. These skills are becoming more highly sought-after by employers. In contrast to vocational qualifications, our liberal arts degree opens doors to many varied fields. Find out more about career prospects for liberal arts graduates.
Campion College specialises in small class sizes, discussion- driven learning, and a unique focus on the liberal arts. We are proud to report outstanding results against the federal government’s Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching (QILT). Click here to learn more.
Campion College is approved for FEE-HELP. Like HECS-HELP, this is a loan offered to eligible students to help pay for their tuition. Students may also pay upfront or offset their fees through scholarships or financial aid.
Over half of our students receive financial support during their studies. Scholarships are competitive and awarded based on merit, including those for leadership, sport, media, fine arts, and indigenous students. High achievers are automatically considered for the Academic Excellence Scholarship. Bursaries are also available to students who demonstrate financial need, including residential, special circumstances, and indigenous bursaries. Learn more about scholarships or financial aid.

We admit approximately 50 students each year, fostering a small, close-knit, and engaged learning community.
Lectures typically involve the entire cohort, while tutorials are smaller, with approximately 20 students, allowing for personalised attention and active participation.
Most students attend classes 3–4 days per week. You will typically have 3 hours of classes for each unit you are enrolled in. This should be supplemented by an additional 4-6 hours of independent study per unit for class preparation and assignments.
There are four main pathways for students seeking admission to Campion College:
- Recent secondary education – Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) of 70.00 or higher completed within the previous three years. IB equivalents also accepted.
- Higher education studies – Successful completion of university bridging program or two units of study in a degree course from an Australian university.
- Vocational Education Training (VET) – Successful completion of a Certificate IV in Tertiary Preparation from Augustine Academy.
- Alternative admission pathways – Skills for Tertiary Admission Test (STAT) or select preparatory courses approved by the college.
The ATAR requirement for Campion College is consistent with Arts degrees across the country. A lower ATAR threshold ensures that students with potential, regardless of their high school results, have the opportunity to excel in an intellectually stimulating environment. Our courses are designed to challenge students of all abilities. If you’re a high achiever, the ATAR requirement should not be a deterrent—our program will push you to reach your full potential.
Our Early Offer Scheme allows Year 12 students to secure a place before ATAR results are released, based on recommendations and academic potential. Applications open in May each year. Click here to learn more.
Students who have experienced hardship during their secondary schooling may apply for an ATAR adjustment under the Educational Access Scheme (EAS). Applicants who fall below the requirements for normal entry may be offered provisional entry.
